Omar is originally from Somalia but grew up in Kenya. He worked as a primary school teacher in Dadaab Refugee Camp and volunteered with several organizations dealing with environmental and social issues. In 2007, he moved to Canada with an educational sponsorship through World University Service of Canada ( WUSC), earning a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Guelph, where he also served as a Research Assistant in the Agricultural Economics Department. Since 2014, Omar has been a public servant, and works at Saskatchewan Government Insurance Corporation (SGI) where he worked in various roles including Claims, Finance and Systems departments. Omar currently serves as an Insights Analyst in the Customer Insights Department, while also pursuing a Master’s Degree in Data Science. Omar also volunteers and supports other community based organizations in Regina.  Omar’s diverse background and analytical expertise will be invaluable to TIDA’s operations both locally and internationally.
